»  ACCREDITATION ACTIVITY

At the end of 2003, A2LA had 1,651 laboratories accredited in 48 states, Canada, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland, and Taiwan, an increase of 2.4 % over 2002. During this same period, 120 accreditations were withdrawn. A 10-year growth rate is shown in Figure 1. A comparison of accredited laboratories in various fields of testing and calibration with previous years is shown in Table 2 below.

The number of entities enrolled has shown a net increase of 39 (1737 at the end of 2002, 1778 at the end of 2003). For the year, a total of 174 new applications for accreditation were received and 127 entities were in the process of becoming accredited at year's end.
