»  ACCREDITATION ACTIVITY

At the end of 2001, A2LA had 1,573 laboratories accredited in 48 states, Canada, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Switzerland, and Taiwan, an increase of 5.5 % over 2000. During this same period, 214 accreditations were withdrawn. A 10-year growth rate is shown in Figure 1. A comparison of accredited laboratories in various fields of testing and calibration with previous years is shown in Table 2 below.

The number of entities enrolled has shown a net decrease of 12 (1782 at the end of 2000, 1770 at the end of 2001). For the year, a total of 230 new applications for accreditation were received and 197 entities were in the process of becoming accredited at year's end.
