In June of 2018, A2LA initiated a new system for third-party assessment organizations (3PAOs) seeking to become FedRAMP accredited. Under this system, any organization seeking to become an accredited 3PAO must first become accredited to A2LA’s Cybersecurity Inspection Body Program. Organizations accredited to this program will spend approximately one year demonstrating their adherence to the requirements of the cybersecurity program before opting to transition to the FedRAMP program. This two-step process serves to first establish a level of more generalized technical competence in the cybersecurity field before organizations are considered for the more specialized FedRAMP program. We are pleased to announce that San Francisco-based information security company Securisea is the first company to achieve FedRAMP accreditation through this newly implemented A2LA process.
A2LA is pleased to announce the accreditation of the Escondido Police Department Forensic Services Unit to ISO/IEC 17020:2012 under the Forensic Examination Accreditation Program for crime scene investigation, latent print processing, and latent print analysis.
This third-party accreditation offers an independent review of an organization’s compliance to both ISO/IEC 17020 as well as technical program requirements for the desired scope of accreditation.
A2LA is now recognized by the City of Philadelphia Department of Licenses and Inspections to provide ISO/IEC 17020:2012 Requirements for the Operation of Various Types of Bodies Performing Inspection accreditation for Special Inspection Agencies conducting work for the City of Philadelphia. Beginning in October 2017, all agencies performing special inspections must be formally registered with the Department of Licenses and Inspections. Per the City of Philadelphia Licenses + Inspections Special Inspections Agencies and Inspectors Requirements Document, an agency may use accreditation from an established accreditation entity to ISO/IEC 17020 as an alternative to the Agency Experience Requirements.
A2LA is proud to announce the accreditation of QSES Inc., located in Shiba, Japan, under the A2LA accreditation program for Field Evaluation Bodies (FEB) that combines ISO/IEC 17020:2012 and NFPA 790/791. FEBs evaluate one-of-a-kind, limited-production, used, or modified electrical equipment that are not listed or field-labeled under a certification program to ensure it complies with applicable codes or standards. FEBs are assessed by A2LA against National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 790 – Standard for Competency of Third-Party Field Evaluation Bodies and NFPA 791 – Recommended Practice and Procedures for Unlabeled Electrical Equipment Evaluation. QSES Inc.’s Scope of Accreditation (Certificate 3914.02) includes field evaluations for Industrial and Process Control Equipment and Semiconductor Fabrication Equipment product categories as established by NFPA 790 Annex C.
